Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport makes traveling to the Big Easy, well, easy. The airport changed its name to include Louis Armstrong in 2001 in honor of the New Orleans native’s 100th birthday. Over 14 major airlines service the airport with low fare airline, Southwest, handling the most passenger traffic. A medium-sized airport, it consists of a main terminal with a lower level baggage claim and an upper level ticketing lobby. Four concourses extend from the main terminal. Typically, the airport is hassle-free, but during Mardi Gras when the city is inundated with bead-crazy tourists, airport officials recommend that passengers arrive at the airport at least two hours before arrival time. The airport is located in Kenner, La., approximately 11 miles from central New Orleans, so you can be soaking up the ambiance of Riverwalk and the French Quarter in no time at all.
