Located in Philadelphia, the fifth largest city in the U.S. that’s known as the nation’s birthplace, the Philadelphia International Airport gets a lot of traffic from both Philly residents and tourists. The airport is approximately seven miles from downtown Philadelphia and is connected to the city by SEPTA’s high speed rail line. It is a major international and domestic hub for US Airways, but over twenty airlines service the airport offering nonstop flights to numerous domestic and international destinations. The airport is a sprawling complex with six different terminal facilities: Terminals A West and East, Terminal B/C, Terminal D, Terminal E and Terminal F. Terminal F was opened in June 2001 and offers 38 gates for regional and commuter jets, and Terminal A West houses a new international hall opened in Spring 2003. It’s quite a trek, even with a shuttle, between Terminal A and Terminal F, so veteran travelers recommend budgeting an extra 30 minutes if you’re connecting from an international flight to a regional one. Terminal B/C, where US Airways primarily operates, houses the Philadelphia Marketplace, a large food, beverage and retail gallery. Throughout all of the terminals, be on the lookout for the airport’s extensive art displays featuring arts, crafts, design and photography by artists from Philadelphia and around the world.
