Midway International Airport received such a major facelift that there’s no resemblance to the crowded Midway of the past. The airport redevelopment project, completed in June 2004, included a completely new terminal and concourse building with spacious airline gates, expanded ticketing counters and baggage claim areas, and more restaurants and shops. Twelve airlines such as Southwest, US Airways, and Delta operate out of these fancy new digs offering nonstop flights around the country. The airport is located 10 miles from downtown Chicago on the southwest side of the city. The CTA Orange Line connects the airport with downtown Chicago in about 30 minutes. Midway’s new facilities and convenient location has transformed this ugly duckling into a swan.
